The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a warning for an extraordinary weather event forecast to impact South East Queensland and Northern NSW from tonight, with potential rainfall totals of up to 400mm over the coming days.
Rainfall of this intensity within a short period may result in:
- Flash flooding
- Rapid creek and river rises
- Stormwater overflow
- Road closures
- Power outages
This system is expected to begin impacting the region from this evening. Residents are strongly encouraged to take immediate steps to prepare.
What You Should Do Now
Clear Balcony & Courtyard Drains
Where safe to do so, remove leaves and debris from balcony and courtyard drains to help minimise the risk of water ingress.
Secure Outdoor Items
Bring inside or firmly secure loose furniture, planters, and decorative items that may become hazardous in strong wind or heavy rain.
Move Vehicles if Needed
Avoid parking in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
Prepare for Power Outages
Charge mobile devices and essential electronics now. Have torches and spare batteries ready, and familiarise yourself with your building’s emergency and lift procedures.
Protect Valuables & Important Documents
Move valuable items away from floor level and store important documents in waterproof containers where possible.
Check Building Safety Measures
Ensure you understand any building-specific stormwater or flood precautions that have been communicated. Report any emerging issues in common areas as soon as possible.
If you have building-specific concerns, please contact your Building Manager or SSKB Community Manager immediately.
