Rave reviews for the Brisbane Living in Strata Trade Show

It was a celebration of all things body corporate at the Brisbane Living in Strata Body Corporate Trade Show.

Being the final event of its kind for the year, it didn’t disappoint!

Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the venue was packed with industry suppliers, exhibitors and representatives from an assortment of Brisbane based companies.  Lot owners, committee members and building managers arrived in scores to hear the latest strata news from three highly experienced and prominent speakers.

Here’s a quick re-cap of the day for anyone that missed out!

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk:

Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk kicked things off with an update on imminent developments for the city and its surrounds.

Cr Quirk said he aimed to boost the city’s identity to ensure it was universally recognised, alike that of Sydney and Melbourne.

“We are soon hosting the G20 Summit,” he said.

“We currently have billboards all around the world advertising our fantastic city.”

Cr Quirk said he expected growth for the city if  businesses chose Brisbane as their preferred destination to hold functions, opposed to other Australian capital cities.

“We will also be hosting the Asian Pacific Screen Awards in December, and every year consecutively.”

Cr Quirk said events like these helped put Brisbane on the map as an ideal destination to live, travel and do business.

He said there was a new city plan in the works and that strata living was a big part of the drafted framework.

“Strata will remain a huge part of future planning and development for Brisbane,” he said.

SSKB Director Tim Sheehan:

SSKB’s Tim Sheehan offered an analysis on what could, and what should be achieved in the Queensland Property Law Review. Warming up the crowd, Tim took the opportunity to challenge the audience’s view on the possibility for change in the strata sector. He posed the controversial question; can you really fix body corporate?

Queensland Attorney-General Jarrod Bleije:

As the final speaker for the day, Jarrod Bleijie delivered an educational overview of the QLD Property Law Review with an explanation of why specific changes were being implemented. The floor was open to attendees who had the opportunity to put their queries to Mr Bleijie.

It was fantastic to see so many lot owners with the chance to talk one on one with such a prominent figure in the strata industry.

The Exhibition:

The day wouldn’t have been what is was without the fantastic exhibition put on by suppliers to the strata industry. There were sample products galore and even a live ‘glass breaking’ demonstration from O’Brien Glass.

All in all, the day was informative, fun and rewarding. I would encourage anyone who lives, invests or works in strata to come along next year. It’s an event- not to be missed!
