Queensland’s management rights industry is the subject of a discussion paper released by the former Bligh Government to review aspects of the Body Corporate and Community Management (BCCM) Act 1997.
The new Newman Government has indicated that it will accept the responses to the discussion paper.
The discussion paper was tabled in State Parliament prior to the election as another important area of possible legal reform.

Community management schemes and strata title properties can be a particularly important subject in parts of Queensland with large numbers of people either living in or investing in residential or holiday units, such as the Gold Coast where there are 300 corporations licensed to provide residential letting management services.
Parliament was advised that there were 40,000 community management schemes in existence across the state.
Queensland State president of ARAMA, Chris Ward, said that their strategic management committee was working with members to respond to the discussion paper and the review of the BCCM Act 1997.
“The Parliament has an obligation to review all legislation on a regular basis…there has been a number of amendments to the BCCM Act over the past 15 years
“The Government, in looking at the population, forecasted growth of the State from 2.4 million to more than 4 million people over the next 30 years…
“Management rights has been successfully developed in Queensland over a 50 year period and is one of the major reasons for the growth of the Queensland tourist industry in key areas of the State,” Mr Ward added.
Mr Ward highlighted that the discussion paper was examining a whole range of modern day management issues concerning building types and the financial stability of the management rights sector of community living in the 21st century.
