Community Schemes Law Reform NSW – Have Your Say

Community Schemes Law Reform NSW - Have Your Say

The New South Wales (NSW) government is seeking feedback from the public on the drafting of the Community Land Management Bill 2019 and the Community Land Development Bill 2019.

What Are the Changes?

The existing community scheme laws for NSW are 30+ years old.

The Bills entirely rewrite NSW Community Schemes laws to evolve and modernise to meet consumer needs.

They aim to make community land development legislation more flexible and implement feedback from Strata laws.

Some of the proposed changes are:

  • To make the way schemes are managed more transparent and improving accountability
  • To simplify the dispute resolution process within schemes
  • To give more flexibility within schemes to control parking
  • Updating the definitions of multiple terms to ensure consistency and accurate use of terms across the industry
  • To use technology to encourage an increase in participation from scheme members, owners and tenants
