HOONS on modified motorcycles or in sports cars are turning the Gold Coast’s most prestige beachfront suburbs into drag strip after dusk.

Business leader Max Christmas revealed he has written to the seven body corporates responsible for hundreds of unit owners as part of a campaign to get the government to instruct police to launch a crackdown.

Melbourne unit owners could be forced to sell their homes to developers

“Decaying” old apartment buildings around Melbourne could be demolished and sold to developers under proposed reforms that could see people’s homes forcibly acquired.

As it stands, any plan to sell a building must be approved by 100 per cent of owners, making sales of ageing apartment complexes near impossible.

Similar laws have already been introduced in New South Wales, but not without controversy, due to fears it could drive vulnerable owner-occupiers, including the elderly, out of their homes.

A parliamentary committee has recommended a major overhaul of the Andrews government’s planned short-stay reforms, saying the proposed laws do not give owners corporations enough power.

QCOSS report says renters are at a disadvantage when it comes to energy

Rising energy costs and rapidly changing technology are putting Queensland renters at increasing disadvantage, a new report has found.

Queensland Council of Social Services chief executive officer Mark Henley said many people embraced new technologies as energy prices went up, but that was often not an option for renters.
